November 2019: A Note From Tony

Happy November Prairie South!

With Halloween here and gone, we’ll be thinking of report cards and looking forward to a well-deserved Christmas break.  Thank you to everyone who has been muddling through MySchoolSask with us this fall.  It looks like the parent portal will be available this week sometime – this is a relief for me as we have had some challenges connected with the display of data on the parent portal, but it is looking like we will be able to use this tool to report student progress as scheduled.  I know that the implementation of this program is challenging and stressful – thanks for keeping your focus on the things we can control.  If we continue to tackle it as a team, I know we’ll get there!

I’m very excited to let you know that we have achieved a tentative collective agreement with our staff represented by CUPE Local 5512.  After our last offer was rejected by the membership earlier this fall, it was great to be able to get back to work with the help of a provincial mediator and develop an agreement that is supported by both the CUPE and the Prairie South bargaining teams.  As was the case earlier in the fall, members of the CUPE Executive will be visiting schools to conduct a ratification vote next week – please support this important process however you can.  If the agreement is successfully ratified by the CUPE Local 5512 membership, it will go to the Board of Education for review and ratification on November 26th.

I was both happy and sad to accept Darran Teneycke’s resignation in October.  Darran will be with us until next summer, when he will retire after a distinguished career of teaching, administration and leadership.  True to form, Darran was mostly worried about getting back to work when he gave me the letter – please take a second to congratulate Darran when you see him!

Thank you to everyone who has coached or helped with a fall extra-curricular activity – whether you are preparing for drama or a Christmas concert, working on the court with a volleyball team, spending chilly time outdoors with football or cross-country or doing any of the other things that make school special for kids and families, I appreciate the extra time you spend!

Have a great November – see you soon,

Tony
