September 2019: A Note From Tony

Hello Prairie South Friends,

Happy Provincial Students’ Day – welcome to the first day of school of the 2019-2020 school year!  While I know many of you have been hard at work for some time preparing for today, the first day with students is a special day each year where we are reminded why we do the work we do.  This afternoon at the Board of Education meeting, I will be welcoming 6500 children and youth to Prairie South schools in 19 communities in southern Saskatchewan.  I will be talking about the difference between meeting the needs of 6500 kids and meeting the needs of a single child 6500 times.  Each of our students deserves an education that is meaningful for them, and our amazing staff works hard to provide this.  Thank you in advance for your service to children and families in 2019-2020.

When I met with the teachers at our division inservice last week, I talked with them about the Provincial Education Plan, collective bargaining, MySchoolSask, phishing scams, school division calendars and partnerships.  While I know we have a million things on the go, these are the items that are top of mind for me right now – if you’re curious about any of these things (or anything else!), please feel free to zip me an email, and I’ll do my best to get some information for you.

I have received some feedback about the length of my messages, so I will be trying to write smaller notes more frequently this year.  Please let me know if this meets your needs better than a longer communication.

I’m looking forward to seeing you in schools, at the transportation or facilities shops, or at the office as we work together this year.  Have a great day!
